OH MY GOODNESS, its been a few days and there is so many comments. alright, I shall reply every single one of you here. Easier la.
Justina, YvonneBasically this test is usually ordered and requested by companies where patients who do this test is undergoing this screening test before being employed by the company (Like our Poly enrolment package - medical screen). It is to test if the patient/employee has any history of smoking or drug consumption. If the results are positive, it will just relate that the patient has a history of smoking (most common case) or in any case come in contact with nicotine, thats all. No further testing is required unless the company wants to know the quantitative amount of Nicotine in the patient blood.
AmirYes, for such cases, passive smokers or 2nd hand smokers can also have a positive case in the urine. Therefore, indirect and direct method with affect the result.
LiyanaThe capillary action of the test kit is actually like the paper chromatography that we do in primary school. The specimen is dripped onto a filter-paper-liked surface where it can be diffused up and reach the results box. And in the box, C is the control line where the it will always appear to act as a negative control indicating that the proper volume of specimen has been added. T is the test line that indicates whether is there positive or negative result as shown in the result and interpretation part.
RusyDefinitely, besides drug test, I've done quite a lot of urine related test like Urine culture using special medium, Urine Microscopic examination, Urine dipstick test, Urine OGTT, Urine Microalbumin/Creatinine Ratio. All this are the test available in the urine section.
Immortals (name not indicated)
If the drug is below the detectable amount of 200ng/ml, then it would be a negative test already. So the line will appear on the box not because it cannot be detected, because the drug amount is lesser to be bound to the antibody on the test kit.
ErnestYes, typo error! Thanks for the correction, Anyway, TOX is Drug Toxicology test where 7 types of drug is screened using just a simple kit that acts the same way as the COT test. It is not really rare but companies ususally order the COT test for their employees because they just want to screen for any smoking history etc. the TOX test is an easy test where a test kit slightly bigger than the COT is used and then the turn around time is less than 30 minutes.
I hope all these are sufficient to answer your questions and clear your doubts (:
